The benefit, believed to be the first of its kind, provides parents of children entering kindergarten with up to eight and a half additional days off at full pay. The technology company employs about 1800 people globally. Around half of those are based in Australia, with offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The leave is part of a comprehensive benefits package IRESS offers parents. This includes paid parental leave for up to 26 weeks for primary carers and up to six weeks’ leave for secondary carers. In addition, employees returning from primary parental leave are able to work part-time for up to four weeks while receiving full-time pay to assist with the transition back to work.
